Project Success Enewsletter and Blog

The Project Success enewsletter is a quarterly digital publication reaching nearly 10,000 families, donors, partners and community leaders each month. I serve as the content manager for the enewsletter, which includes managing the editorial calendar, writing stories, finding/creating visuals and building the newsletter in MailChimp.

As Project Success is more than 90 percent privately funded, the enewsletter highlights the organization's innovative work as we grow and expand — all made possible by supporter dollars. Ultimately, it is an important digital tool to continue to build enthusiasm and passion for the Project Success mission.

Expeditions: On Campus, Around the World and into the Great Outdoors

What are some of the best cures for the cabin fever and isolation we’ve all experienced over the last year? Connection, travel, the great outdoors – to name a few. For nearly three decades, Project Success has built programs that push students out of their comfort zones, literally and figuratively, through hands-on expeditions – to Theodore Wirth Park, to the Boundary Waters, to Chicago, to France and Mexico and places in-between. Replicating those experiences for students learning from home was

“Dear Mr. President”: Edison Students Tackle the Topic of the Election in an Unprecedented Year

Students may likely be facing one of the most monumental school years of their lives. Not only has a global pandemic changed the way all of us coexist, work and go to school — but the presidential election of November 2020 was one of the most consequential and noteworthy of our time. In 2016, Edison High School produced the first ever Dear Mr. President, a student-led production in response to the 2016 election. As the 2020 election approached, the Edison team knew they wanted to reprise it for

Workshops, A Foundation of PS Programming, Evolve to Meet Students Where They Are

Since 1994, the foundation of Project Success programming has been our in-class workshops. These workshops allow us to reach each student in every school we serve, as our professional facilitators deliver our proven curriculum to middle and high school students once a month in their English classes. That curriculum and those relationships are also at the core of all Project Success arts, expeditions and certificate programs. This March, when Minneapolis Public Schools began teaching students th

Institute Certificates Keep Students Engaged from a Distance

For two years, the Project Success Institute has given high school students the opportunity to expand their personal and professional skill sets through immersive, hands-on learning experiences. Institute certificates, designed in 10-week trimesters, offer guidance in life skills such as cooking and financial literacy, as well as career-related fields like coding and podcasting. “When we say ‘The Project Success Institute,’ we’re talking about a multi-functional classroom space here at the Proj

Back to Boston: Returns to BU and Harvard for a 5th Consecutive Year

This month, as part of our global expeditions, Project Success will return to Boston University (BU) and Harvard University for the fifth consecutive year. 50 students from 9 Minneapolis high schools will travel to Boston in mid-November, marking our largest Project Success global experience to date. Since our initial Boston trip in fall 2015, global expeditions have grown to become an integral part of Project Success’ core programming. Through all types of Project Success expeditions, students

Facilitator and Actor Annick Dall on Her Role in “Sisters of Peace” and the Benefits of Theater for Students

In March and April 2019, Project Success had the opportunity to bring students to History Theatre’s Sisters of Peace, thanks to tickets generously donated by the theater. This was a particularly unique opportunity as Project Success Facilitator Annick Dall (South High School) had a role in the show, acting in a number of different ensemble parts, including portraying younger versions of the four main characters. During the run of the show, Annick was also facilitating discussions in her high sch

Nine Andersen Students Explore Themes of Strength and Independence in Mexico with

Project Success has a longstanding and special relationship with Minneapolis sister city Cuernavaca, the state of Morelos and the surrounding areas of Mexico. We’ve toured our student-created musical And So I Did to local schools, brought students to participate in the CIMMA environmental conference, participated in professional development with our facilitation team and more. This spring, nine more Project Success students had the opportunity to experience Mexico first hand during a six-day tri

University of St. Thomas Enewsletter and Blog

During my time at the University of St. Thomas, I pioneered the creation of the first-ever newsletter for the School of Education and the Graduate School of Professional Psychology. This endeavor sought to position our faculty as thought leaders in their respective fields, showcase the stories of successful alumni, and elevate the reputation of St. Thomas as a leading institution for education, leadership and counseling graduate programs. I developed this idea as a way to increase awareness and enrollment for the five departments I served within the two schools. The schools continue to be featured frequently in the St. Thomas Newsroom — the "the online hub of strategic, shareable news and stories about St. Thomas."

Magazine Journalism

My first passion will always be writing — and, in particular, all forms of storytelling. As a college senior in 2009-10, my capstone internship was with Tiger Oak Publications, a Minneapolis-based magazine publisher. I was successful in my role, and Tiger Oak requested I stay on as a freelance writer for the magazines after I graduated, which led to other freelance opportunities with Twin Cities. My portfolio includes a small selection of my published articles.
